FRUIT TREE GRAFTING

Try something different and impress your horticultural friends. Learn and then practice fruit tree grafting techniques so you can do it later at home. Yes, you can have red, green, yellow and striped apples all on the same tree.

BILL JOHNSON will demonstrate all the techniques he uses to graft various kinds of apples onto the same tree. He has a tree in his yard with at least 12 successful grafts, each producing a different variety of apple. Bill learned these grafting skills in the 1960’s and has been grafting regularly for the last fifteen years.

Many of you already know Bill. He is a past president of our Central Ohio Organic Gardening Club, a member of OEFFA (Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association) as well as the Franklin County Farm Bureau. He grows many organic vegetables, herbs and flowers in his 2000-plus square foot garden. He sells many of his herbs and vegetables to markets specializing in organically grown produce.

Come! Bring a friend! Learn a new and exciting technique. You will even get some hand-on experience making a graft by yourself, with Bill’s coaching, of course. Grafting is a great space-saver if your garden area is small and you want a variety of apples maturing at different times.

Dues for the year 2007 should be paid no later than April 1 to continue receiving meeting announcements. If dues have not been paid for the past two years, it is assumed you no longer want to continue your membership and this will be the last mailing you will receive. If, however, there is a reason you have not been able to attend meetings due to illness, work schedules, etc., please call me (614-276-1728), send me an e-mail at grasor@ameritech.net, or drop me a note at the address on the other side of this announcement. If, for any reason, you cannot attend the meeting on the 27th and have not yet paid your dues, please send your check to Cathie Littleton, 6780 St. Rt. 56 SE, London, OH 43140-8785. She will send your membership card promptly. Thanks for your continued support.

PLEASE NOTE
For security reasons, the Museum has asked that we lock the entrance doors 30 minutes after our meeting begins, therefore, you are urged to plan to arrive promptly. If you arrive later and have a cell phone, you can call my cell phone (614-203-8016) and I will unlock the door.
