JEFF DICKINSON of the Stratford Ecological Center presented a most interesting program to our group at the March 28th meeting on A Holistic Approach to Organic Gardening at Home. Jeff is Director and Farmer on the 236-acre experimental education center and organic demonstration/research farm. Many of you attended this presentation and were quite impressed with what he discussed.
Now, we have the opportunity of visiting the Center where Jeff will guide us on a tour of the facilities which contains a 95-acre State Nature Preserve and a demonstration farm as “living laboratories” to provide experimental education in ecology and sustainable agriculture, demonstrating the relationship between natural ecosystems and agroecosystems. The facility has butterbush swamps, stream and forests, 70 acres of field crops, livestock (dairy and beef cattle, goats, sheep, chickens and hogs), a sugar bush with maple sugar shack, greenhouses, a small orchard and a vegetable, herb and flower garden primarily used for education programs.
We will meet Jeff at 12:00 noon, enjoy a covered dish potluck lunch, then tour the facilities.
Please bring a covered dish to share, your own table service, and beverages. Plan on an interesting day of food, fun and facts, learning more about organic gardening.

Stratford Ecological Center is just south of the city of Delaware, Ohio – a short distance west of the junction of State Route 23 and State Route 315. From State Route 315, turn west onto Bunty Station Road and follow for 1 mile (Gabby’s Place, a small carry-out, is at the corner of 315 and Bunty Station Road). Turn right onto Liberty Road. Stratford is a quarter mile on the right – watch for the sign! Follow the gravel drive through the woods to the parking lot next to the Education Center.
