Tuesday, September 26, 2006 – 7:00 p.m.
Museum of Biological Diversity
1315 Kinnear Road, Columbus, OH
SHARON TREASTER, of the Horticulture and Crop Science Department, OSU, will tell us how to select and manage willow species in the landscape to extend seasonal color. Species and cultivars within the Chadwick Arboretum and Learning Gardens willow collection have colorful twigs, unique forms or leaves and early flowering. Naturally, all the positives are not present on the same plant and most plants do require a bit of TLC for best effects. Sharon will have display samples, will talk about the different species, share handouts and answer questions. Chadwick Arboretum maintains an entire collection of Willows and she will invite our group to visit that display as well.
Sharon has done research for 15 years in various aspects of container and field production of landscape plants at OSU. She has also taught plant identification, propagation and landscape maintenance at OSU for 15 years. She is in partnership with the Columbus Audubon/-Department of Natural Areas and Preserves and plant identification instructor for the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs for 13 years. She has provided workshops on the Willow Collection, plant selection, plant communities, plants historical use, plant propagation, pruning and the gardening legacy.
This should be a very enlightening presentation for our first meeting of
the fall to spring season and you are encouraged to bring a friend or neighbor
who might also be interested in attending.
PLEASE NOTE: For security reasons, the Museum has asked that we lock the entrance
doors 30 minutes after our meeting begins, therefore, you are urged to plan
to arrive promptly.
Refreshments and beverages will be served following the program, allowing time for mingling and sharing gardening experiences with others in attendance. We look forward to seeing you on the 26th.
